AGAPE LERATO COMMUNITY SERVICES

Our Services

Our direct services are dealing with the Orphan Vulnerable Children and families affected and infected with HIV/AIDS disease in Sicelo and the surrounding areas in Meyerton under Midvaal Municipality.

Services that the organization is rendering to the communities are:

  1. • Identification and assisting orphan and vulnerable children.
  2. • HIV/AIDS programs: ( HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, health talks, peers education, distribution of condoms)
  3. • Support group for people affected an infected with HIV/AIDS.
  4. • Chronic Diseases testing (High Blood Pressure, Sugar Diabetes, TB)
  5. • Food Parcels Distribution to 100 poor and needy families per month.
  6. • Referrals to different stakeholders (old age and orphanage homes, hospice, hospitals, clinics, school, and other NGO`s, Home Affairs & SASSA).
  7. • Child and maternal health and nutrition (PATH)
  8. • Substance abuse prevention and awareness
  9. • Men and boys program

 

We have the following two aspects as the income generating projects.

Food Gardening & Sewing

Factors that are affecting our beneficiaries are:

Unemployment Rate.

Taking of treatment without food which leads them to default.

When the period of temporary disability has lapsed this leave PLWHA’s vulnerable and the review of medical condition not being stable.

Some of the beneficiaries do not have ID Documents due to some backlogs from the department of Home Affairs.

The People We Serve

The Midvaal Local Municipality has an estimated population of 83 443 people, which constitutes approximately 8% of the Sedibeng District population and 0.7% of the Gauteng population. The 83 443 people represent an estimated 31 102 households of which, approximately 4 172 families reside in informal structures. The average annual population growth since 1996 has been around 4.27%.

Sicelo Community

Agape has been playing its role in local communities since its establishment, with most of our staff staying in Sicelo, a walking distance to Agape. Both the youth and adults are given a platform/a chance to take part in developing their communities.
